The relationship between Benigno and Alicia in the movie Talk To Her is a very strange relationship. Alicia’s father hires Benigno to take care of her daughter full time because Alicia is in a coma. Benigno keeps her looking like she was before she entered the hospital, he cuts her hair does her nails and massages her body, the whole time he keeps a conversation with her. Over time Benigno falls in love with Alicia, and eventually he has sex with her and gets her pregnant. Benigno is deeply in love with the woman who cannot speak or barley move, and he believes that she is in love with him also. I believe that there is something a little off in Benigno because a normal person wouldn’t fall in love with a woman in a coma, that couldn’t speak or barley move. Benigno’s name means “Bengin” or by definition gracious, kind, helpful, pleasant or beneficial, it is Benignos role in toe movie to be the helper of Alicia. After it is found out that Alicia is pregnant, Benigno is fired and sent to jail for raping her. Months later Alicia has the baby and she wakes up from the coma because of the birth of the baby. It seems that Alicia has no recollection of Benigno when she is awake which makes me assume that Benigno just imagined their whole entire relationship. I also believe that Benigno sees his mother in Alicia which is another reason why he falls in love with her although she is in a coma. For some reason I believe Benigno always needs a woman for him to take care of because he didn’t go to school and all he knows how to do is take care of patients especially woman.
