Decameron 2

Story 2.7 is a story of a woman who is constantly being passed between several different men throughout the timeline of the story. The woman can be described in many wicked ways for the things that she did but it seems to me that she had no choice to do what she was doing because she was stuck in a foreign country where no one could understand the words she was saying. This story shows how lustful men are and how they are willing to lie, cheat, and even kill each other to gain a woman. They all desire her and they all do unforgivable things to try and be with her. The message for a wider audience is that to rid yourself of you desires and live with what god gives you and this is said in the prologue.

Story 2.9 demonstrates to us once again that during these times switching gender role was not an uncommon practice because it is written about in several other stories. It makes me believe that this was pretty common because it is a reoccurring theme so far and it does not seemed to be looked down upon by the medieval society that they are doing these things in. This story also shows how clever woman are because the woman who is condemned to death is able to escape and to disguise herself as a man to find the “deceiver” who does her wrong. In the end the woman succeeds and is able to return home. Gender roles have played a big part of all the stories so far and it is not uncommon for a man to dress as a woman or a woman to dress as a man.
